Why use Coconut Oil?

Science has finally proven what common sense should have told us long ago: that natural, fresh and unrefined foods, in this case oil, are better for us. The oil in coconuts is incredibly high in antioxidants and lauric acid, a main component of human breast milk. It has a myriad of benefits. Among these are the following:  it treats hypothyroidism and promotes weight loss, it promotes healthy and youthful skin, boosts the immune system, helps control diabetes, benefits those with gastric disorders, treats bacterial, fungal, yeast and viral infections, including AIDS.  It has been touted by some as the “Tree of Life”.

What About the Fat?

Cold pressed coconut oil does not contain cholesterol. It contains healthy plant derived fat that is rapidly converted to energy. Because of its high saturated fat content coconut oil has been unfairly associated with animal fat, however its saturated fat is comprised of short and medium chain fatty acids which are sent directly to the liver for conversion to energy instead of into body tissues as fat. Nowadays mixes of medium chain fats are extracted and sold as a weight loss product. Coconut oil supports thyroid function so effectively that it increases the metabolic rate resulting in decreased blood cholesterol and weight loss.

For Diabetics

Doctors have discovered that a diet high in refined polyunsaturated vegetable oils promotes both sluggish thyroid function and diabetes. These fats decrease your cells’ ability to bind with insulin, so lowers their ability to get glucose. Coconut oil is easily absorbed without enzymes or insulin. It has been shown to help regulate blood sugar, put less demand on the pancreas, and improve insulin secretion and the use of glucose. The medium chain fatty acids in coconut oil increase your metabolism which in turn increases your insulin production and glucose absorption . It helps both Type I and Type II diabetics. With its weight shedding properties it is one fat that diabetics can eat without fear.

The facts on Aging

According to biochemist Dr Ray Peat, studies have shown that the amount of unsaturated oil in the diet strongly affects general aging, especially aging of the brain. Oxidation in the body tissues commonly occurs with unsaturated fats but not saturated fats. Unsaturated fat in the skin is a major target for the aging and carcinogenic effects of ultraviolet light, and speeds up the rate at which aged, wrinkled skin develops.

In contrast to this, coconut oil used on the skin penetrates readily and deeply into the cell structure of underlying connective tissues, strengthening, protecting and repairing the skin. It prevents destructive free-radical formation, helps to prevent sagging and wrinkling, and can keep the skin from developing liver spots and other blemishes caused by aging and over exposure to sunlight. It will keep connective tissues strong and supple, aiding in healing damaged or diseased skin..
